Shadow Teachers
A Shadow Teacher, also known as a paraprofessional or learning support assistant, is a trained professional who provides one-on-one support to your child at school or home. They work especially closely with students who have learning differences, helping make learning easier and more successful.
Shadow Teachers play a vital role in creating inclusive classrooms. They support your child in building important skills, confidence, and independence while collaborating with teachers and families as part of the education team.
Different Names, Same Important Role
Shadow Teachers go by many titles, such as paraprofessionals, ed techs, classroom assistants, teacher aides, or paraeducators. While they are not certified teachers, they are trained to assist under the guidance of certified teachers. They hold the necessary credentials, such as a high school diploma or equivalent, and meet state or district requirements to provide essential classroom support.
